i hate couples. i know. very interesting coming due to my situation. they 'oogle' into each other's eyes, talk baby talk, can't keep their hands off of each other, and are just so freakin' happy! it makes me sick to even be near them.
okay. now the flip side. i love being a couple. holly and i sadly, are the perfect 'provo couple.' it hit me once again today when her roommate came in to find us snugglin' on the couch at her apartment reading a talk on temple marriage (each takin' equal turns reading a paragraph of course,) that was in the 'prepare for marriage' packet we got from our bishop. she came in, we talked for a bit, then i whispered to holly, "i hate people like us." it is the funniest thing. you can't stand to see them but it is great being them! i think i enjoy it so much because i feel that we recognize it, so we can find the humor in the fact that, 'hey, we're annoying...and we don't care.' yet, there are some lines we won't cross...like reciting "the family: a proclamation to the world," to each other in baby voices in the stake office waiting for a temple recommend interview. this scene i sadly witnessed and it disgusted me so much i happy rescheduled my appointment for another day.
being engaged is a weird limbo. you are really an expired milk jug in the fridge called the singles ward, yet the family ward doesn't necessarily want you either. i went to priesthood today, and realized i was the first one there. a few minutes later, another man comes in...the other engaged man in the ward. why socialize? i suggested to holly that we start an 'engaged ward,' for the black sheep like us, and she just said, "okay," in that 'sure, whatever ryan,' voice as we stood in the back of the chapel after sacrament, isolated, each of us branded "expired Mar. 15th, 2007." so. we will continue to be happily in love, annoy (no too bad of course...maybe) the people around us while we enjoy oogling into each others eyes...ah engagement.

hehehehehe....
awesome comment holly. you guys aren't too annoying. :)
you both make me sick. kidding. we all hate "couples" until we become one of them. Please don't ever talk baby talk or I'll have to kill you and I don't want to have to do that. family proclamation baby talk...good crap..that seems like a sin.
I love your description of being engaged in a ward full of singles. It is so true. We were one of the last of about 16 couples in our singles ward that got married over the summer. We totally mocked all of those who in their farewell speech would say, "I'm so happy to marry my best friend for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple" Cry. Cry. Barf. Barf.
HAhahahaha I love not being engaged! It is so great. (This is Tiff, Zakkie- Wakkie's new wife-y.) Congrats on becoming fianced.
